Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat are Brain State Conditioning™ Sessions like? What are Brain State Conditioning™ Sessions like?Training sessions consist of 5 - 7 protocols that are designed to help balance your brain. You sit in an "anti-gravity" chair and relax while the trainer places several EEG electrodes at various points on your head. You wear earphones and begin a series of mental visualizations and tasks. Some protocols require you to watch the screen, others allow you to close your eyes and recline in the chair. Your trainer will explain as you begin each segment of the training. During each protocol as your brain is working, you are listening to your own brain waves reflected back from the computer in a unique musical pattern including sounds meant to encourage the brain towards a more balanced state and stimulating establishment of new neuro-pathways. What is the normal Assessment procedure?Prior to Brain State Conditioning™ training sessions, each client requires an Assessment & Brain Mapping. The assessment helps us to see how the patterns of energy are laid out in your individual brain. Each brain is like a fingerprint – unique to you as an individual. You will be asked to fill out two short surveys, prior to your arrival or at your assessment that is about 1-hour long. Using non-invasive electrodes, your trainer will collect data from seven different areas of the brain while the brain is at rest and on task, like simple math or reading. At the end of the assessment, that data is processed together with your surveys to generate a customized report that outlines your specific training needs to help balance the energy patterns in your brain. [top] How many Sessions do I need?Every brain, like every person, is unique. For the first few sessions, a brain training session will allow newly created neuro-pathways to dominate for a period of time – 24 to 48 hours – and then the older more established neuro-pathway will usually return. This is why we recommend doing an intensive, which comprises a minimum of 1 assessment and 8 - 9 sessions, typically doing 2 sessions per day. In an intensive, the old neuro-pathway does not have an opportunity to regain dominance and therefore the newly created pathway has an opportunity to extend itself more fully and more quickly than in a training based on a once a week effort. You will need to schedule enough time to fulfill the training in a short period of time, and we highly recommend to book the week off work if possible. [top] Does anything get fed into my brain? The EEG electrodes are like sensors that 'read only' and simply listen and transmit the frequencies emanating from your brain. At no time is anything fed into the brain via these sensors. You wear earphones (like the ear buds of an iPod) and listen to tones and frequencies that the computer generates based on the activity in your brain, in real-time. There are a variety of different protocols and types of sounds that you will hear. Depending on the protocol, you will often hear "reward" tones when you are training the brain in the desired frequency area. [top] Is this optimized state permanent or will I have to keep coming back for training?Training can be permanent if you follow the advice of your practitioner. Normally it is best to receive your initial 8 or 9 sessions within a short period of time, rather than having one training session and waiting a long time until the next one. (However, in some severe cases we may recommend to space the sessions out.) Unlike training muscles, which atrophy after lack of use, the brain naturally seeks homeostasis (a balanced, stable condition), so after you have trained the brain prefers staying in balance and it’s more difficult to get out of balance. A bit like riding a bicycle, once you have learned how to balance it is easy to remember and difficult to force yourself out of balance without a natural desire and tendency to remain in balance. That said however, one needs to further nurture the new neuro-pathways established by being mindful with the things that might trigger old pathways that do not disappear, they only fall into the background, so to speak. [top] What can I expect during the week of my training sessions? How the brain responds is different for each client, but generally you might fall into a couple of general areas. If you haven't been sleeping well, you may sleep very deeply after the first few sessions and may feel tired for the first few days of training. This is because you have been sleep deprived, even if you think you are sleeping through the night. Do you wake up fully rested or do you feel like you could go back to sleep immediately upon waking? Do you wake up in the middle of the night and then find it hard to go back to sleep? These are all symptoms of stress so when you receive training your body may react by sleeping more. Otherwise, you may feel energized very quickly and feel more awake, bright and ready to take on the world with renewed enthusiasm. Many people are more depressed than they realize and may feel like a weight has been lifted off them. Some people report increased focus and steady energy throughout the day, instead of requiring naps and frequent coffee breaks. For some, energies or thoughts from the subconscious will tend to surface so they can be effectively dealt with at a conscious level. [top] Can anything bad happen to me?After training, you may realize that you no longer desire depressants, drugs or stimulants, such as alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine - even sugar. To some this may sound like a drawback, but the training you receive helps you remain in balance, negating the desire for such 'uppers' or 'downers', instead, you remain buoyant and balanced for longer periods of time and feel more balanced and harmonized! If this condition sounds like a negative one to you, this training may not be what you want. [top] Does it hurt? No. There is nothing that can hurt you. [top] Is the process of brain training safe? The process is non-invasive - meaning, NO drugs, NO electricity into the brain or body, NO surgical procedures. Brain training is accomplished by using neuro-feedback to show your brain what it looks like and encourage it to move to a more balanced state. Since it is your own brain making the changes, the risks are very minimal. The only complications that have been reported are a headache or possibly trouble sleeping for the first few sessions. Prior to starting treatment sessions, we do need to know if you suffer from any type of seizure activity as certain protocols can encourage one to occur. Has this technology been tested? This technology has been used on over 10,000 clients worldwide. Client results from affiliate providers are constantly reviewed and analyzed to find better ways for us to enable certain areas of the brain to become more balanced and do it quicker. Clinical trials have not been completed, but are moving forward. Are there any clients it doesn't work on?Studies have shown that Beta blockers interfere with neuro-feedback about 50% of the time. These medications are usually prescribed for heart conditions, but are also found in some eye drops. So clients taking Beta blockers need to know that the chances for seeing the benefits of the training is only 50% and they need to make their decision to train accordingly. Otherwise we can work with basically anyone over the age of approximately 8 years old. If a client is on a number of prescription medications, it should be noted that these may increase the number of sessions required for full efficacy. However, natural supplements, herbs and homeopathy are typically fine. [top] Does it interfere with prescription medications? No it does not. [top] How long is a Session? Our sessions are quite extended, approximately between 1 3/4 and 2 hours in duration. Plan at least two hours for each session. [top] What is the recommended number of Sessions for this process to really be effective? For a client to gain the maximum benefit from the BSC process, an Assessment followed by a series of 8 or 9 Sessions are initially required. These are typically completed within 5 days. Most clients need a period of three more weeks to integrate the new neuro-pathways and further benefits are experienced. At that time there is a follow up and we’d review the individual’s goals and results and many people choose to complete more sessions for lasting, optimal balance and effectiveness. Most people do not need more than 30 sessions. [top] How soon before results are evident? Results can often be noticed following the first two Sessions. Each person is different, therefore the outcome is unique to that individual. [top] How are results seen? The length of time and way that results manifest varies from person to person. It depends on your individual brain. For example, clients with addiction, anger and sleep issues usually feel results right away and people around them quickly notice changes. Clients with less significant imbalances usually show more subtle results which are often noticed first by the people around them, like family members, friends, associates at work, etc. Benefits felt by most clients, regardless of the issues that brought them in are, sense of calmness, relaxation, reduced stress and anxiety, better sleep - and the list goes on. [top] Is this process effective to enhance performance, such as sports, academic performance and work productivity?Yes. In fact, one of the first success stories was a young college student who went from almost failing to excelling, making the Dean's List and graduating with a 3.8 grade point average within a few months. The technology is also used to increase and improve sports performance for athletes. There are protocol sets that we can work with to specifically enhance the brain-body connection. [top] Does electricity get processed into the brain or body? No. The technology generates sound-waves delivered through earphones that allow your brain to form new neuro-pathways in a balanced state. [top] Who should use this technology? It is works well for most people - whether you have major issues or behaviors that need improvement and change or if you just want to feel more relaxed, calm and clear-minded - it's for a better life. [top] Do I have to do anything during the sessions?Yes. You sit relaxed in a comfortable reclining chair and follow the simple directions of the trainer providing the protocols. Sometimes your eyes are open and sometimes closed, while listening to the tones you are encouraged to do either some mental visualizations or breathing techniques or simply doing nothing at all (that some people find to be quite a task.)
